Junior Concert 2008

In years gone by there has always been something special about our school concerts and this year was certainly no different. Our junior primary classes underwent a focus on the performing arts in Term Three this year. The efforts of staff, students and parents in the areas of singing, dancing, acting, set construction, prop creation and costume design culminated in two amazing performances, with audiences literally filling the hall. Our 2008 performances consisted of 'Singing from the Rooftops' (Choir), 'Surf's Up' (Mrs Folland's class), 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar' (Miss Fyffe's class), 'The House of Goldilocks' (Miss Norsworthy's class), 'The Phone Call' (Miss Schuster's class), 'Kung Fu Amanda' (Mrs Tew's class), 'Toy Story 3' (Miss Woite's class) and ''Australia's Got Talent' Finale' (Miss Davis' class). The songs and images of Junior Concert 2008 will long be remembered. View photos »»

Shed Men Go Bush III

Extensive planning and 'almost glorious' weather ensured the third annual Shed Men Go Bush event was a success. Around 120 dads and their children travelled to a magnificent location high in the ranges west of Robertstown. Campers arrived late on Friday evening and enjoyed an evening of relaxed fellowship. All survived the cool overnight experience ready to enjoy a full day of exciting individual, team and family challenges throughout Saturday. Attendees then settled in for some fine food, a chat and a night walk, followed by a second overnight experience. It was then that a storm front swept through the area inflicting its wrath on our site. Tents were buffered by ferocious winds. Those who survived the elements rose in the morning with a story or two to tell! View photos »»

Student Disco 2008

An eager and enthusiastic group of parents organised the 2008 Student Disco. Glow sticks, lucky dips, drinks, food and, of course, local DJ ‘Fish the Fatman’, made for a wonderful night of entertainment for the children. An upstairs parents’ retreat overlooking the evening’s activities gave parents the opportunity to ‘get into the groove’ from above. According to the children, the evening gave them the opportunity to ‘get down wit dat’! View photos »»

Pets

Our Year 4/5 students ahd a visit from a number of local pet-related organisations, including PetPEP. The students leant about pet care and choosing the right pet. They also learnt about reading dog body language and the types of things that happen when pets visit their local veterinarian. The students were able to listen to a dog heartbeat and cuddle some furry friends! View photos »»

LENS Athletics Challenge 2008

The setting was a cold winter’s day on St Alban’s Reserve. The forecast was for some patches of rain and possible hail. The dreary forecast was in complete contrast to the spirited squad of St Paul athletes, clearly inspired by Aussie gold in Beijing, who took to the track and field in pursuit of the prestigious Endeavour Cup. What resulted was a well-executed victory over our north-eastern rivals, Good Shepherd Lutheran School and Golden Grove Lutheran Primary School. Even more worthy of celebration than the victory was the sensational spirit with which our athletes competed and the wonderful tone that existed among the many parents and visitors sharing the spectacle. Golden Grove and Good Shepherd were wonderful competitors and a highlight of the day were the friendships strengthened across our three schools. A special mention must go to Endeavour College students who marshalled all events and ensured a smooth and efficiently-run event. Our thanks also go to Heather Vogt, Principal of Endeavour College, for encouraging all competitors and presenting the trophy to our victorious squad. View photos »»

Mini Olympics

Coinciding with the opening of the Beijing Olympics, Miss Seifert's and Ms Bowden's classes joined forces to participate in the St Paul Mini Olympics. Nevermind the high jump, the hockey, the 100m backstoke and the beach volleyball - the St Paul Mini Olympics had a rather bizzare selection of events that saw the students working in teams in an attempt to find themselves standing on the dais, singing their national anthem. Lacrosse Carnival 2008

Our senior classes had the opportunity to demonstrate their lacrosse skills when they participated in a lacrosse carnival organised by the North Adelaide Lacrosse Club. Blessed with perfect weather, it was a sea of St Paulians, with several St Paul teams entered in the competition. All teams played well and displayed excellent sportsmanship on the day. Congratulations to the two St Paul teams who made it to the final. A fantastic effort! View photos »»

Stage 4 Camp

Our Year Six and Seven students, together with Mr Brokate, Miss Burgan, Miss Mattner and Mr Wilksch spent a glorious week at Vivonne Bay, Kangaroo Island. Monday morning started with an extra-early rise in order to catch a bus to Cape Jervois to board the Sealink Ferry. Once the group arrived at Penneshaw, the activities were back-to-back, ranging from a visit to Frenchman's Rock to a tour of Kelly Hill Cave; from a guided tour of Seal Bay to an investigation of Kangaroo Island flora and fauna; from a hike up Little Sahara to an exploration of Flinders Chase National Park; and from an afternoon at Remarkable Rocks to a range of bushwalks. These images show merely only a few of the activities undertaken … you can only imagine the fun had! View photos »»

SAPSASA Athletics

In 2008 our students shined once again at the SAPSASA Athletics competition at St Alban's Reserve. Armed with outstanding sportsmanship and a desire to do their best, our students walked away with numerous ribbons and several invitations to participate at a district level. A special thank you goes to Mr Kym Mickan for putting together an outstanding team. View photos »»

Senior Class In-cursion

Early in the year our senior classes took part in an in-cursion based on the now renowned Tournament of Minds concept held annually at Flinders University. Groups of children were given a problem based on language literature, mathematical engineering and social sciences and were required to solve the problem via a dramatic presentation. The day began with a drama ‘warm-up’, where the children experienced short improvisation activities, practising a variety of theatrical skills. The children were them randomly placed into teams and given rehearsal time to prepare a presentation based on a painting. They made props and costumes for their presentation, using only newspaper and tape. In the afternoon the groups performed their short plays to the remaining students. View photos »»

Stage 3 Camp

Our Year Four and Five students, together with Ms Bowden, Mr Liebelt, Mr Mickan, Miss Mueller and Miss Seifert, spent a few days at Camp Aldinga. Rather than asking what they did on camp, we should ask what they DIDN'T do on camp! They orienteered their way through some untouched scrub, built wiltjas, cooked fish in the traditional Aboriginal way, discovered Aboriginal 'supermarkets', played the digeridoo, swam in the pool and laughed themselves silly at Red Faces. They also made a 6km trek to the beach and found crabs, sea snails, starfish and blue-ringed octopi on a fantastic reef walk. View photos »»

Welcome BBQ 2008

The annual St Paul Lutheran School Welcome BBQ has become somewhat of an institution! It's a wonderful way to welcome in the new school year. It's also the perfect opportunity for families new to the school to experience first-hand what our school community is all about, and to begin to feel a part of it! The highlight of this year's Welcome BBQ was a memorable performance from 'The Amazing Drumming Monkeys'. Our Welcome BBQ is organised by our parent body and we thank them for, once again, putting on such an amazing event! View photos »»
