Premier’s Reading Challenge (PRC) 2023

15 March 2023

Over the last two weeks students have started the Premier’s Reading Challenge for 2023. This year is a special one as we are celebrating 20 years of the Premier’s Reading Challenge. The PRC is a literacy engagement program that was introduced by the Premier to encourage students to read more books, enjoy reading and improve literacy levels. To celebrate 20 years of the Challenge the PRC is running an additional Challenge this year where students can challenge themselves to read 20 books instead of the usual 12.

How does it work?

To complete the Challenge students have until the 8th September 2023 to read a total of twelve books. At least eight of the twelve books need to be chosen from the Premier's Reading Challenge booklist at the appropriate year level or at an appropriate literacy level for each student. Another 4 books can be the student's own choice and should be of a similar standard to books on the list. Students record the books read and a parent/carer/teacher or librarian initials to acknowledge the book has been read. Students return completed sheets to the library.

On completion of the original 12 book Challenge students will be offered the option to complete the 20 Book Challenge.  At the end of the year all students who have completed the Challenge will receive an award. Students who have completed the 20 Book Challenge will receive a bonus certificate as well as their nominated award.
