What is a Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP)?

14 June 2023

A Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) is a formal commitment to reconciliation. It consists of tangible actions that we as a school can work towards achieving a more reconciled community. This plan began over two years ago with expressions of interest within the staff and community to develop a RAP working group. We developed and actioned our plan through the Narragunnawali platform, as a way of recording the things that we are doing and further actions that we could take within the school, classroom and community to strengthen relationships based on mutual understanding and respect. You can access the St Paul RAP in https://www.narragunnawali.org.au/raps/43221/st-paul-lutheran-school

It is essential that we create a safe and inclusive space within our school community where Aboriginal voices are not only heard but actively sought after and valued. Our Reconciliation Action Plan sets forth initiatives that will enable us to engage in meaningful dialogue, invite Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander guest speakers to share their stories and experiences, and integrate knowledge and perspectives across the curriculum.

But this plan is not just a document. It is a call to action for each and every one of us. It is an invitation to embrace diversity, challenge biases, and build bridges of understanding. It is a reminder that reconciliation is not a one-time event but a continuous journey, requiring dedication, perseverance, and a collective effort.

Together, as a community, we can create a safe space where every child, regardless of their background or heritage, feels valued, respected, and included. We can create an atmosphere that celebrates cultural diversity and fosters mutual understanding. Our Reconciliation Action Plan provides us with a roadmap towards this shared vision.

Recently, our RAP was approved and published and on Friday we are celebrating the launch of our RAP to the St Paul Community. We invite you to join us on this journey of reconciliation and look forward to your active participation in this plan.

Please don’t hesitate to reach and talk to us about our RAP and Reconciliation within the school. We welcome your input and ideas.
