RAP Launch

21 June 2023

Last Friday, we officially launched our St Paul Lutheran School Reconciliation Action Plan.

It was a wonderful day where our children experienced a Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony, facilitated by Robert and Jamin, as well as a Didgeridoo performance and presentation later in the morning. Mayor Claire Boan from Port Adelaide Enfield Council addressed our community about the importance of the RAP and her excitement about our community’s commitment and passion regarding this and our aboriginal heritage. The children were treated to a tasty morning tea created by Dianne and inspired by native ingredients, while they browsed the Gallery curated by the staff of St Paul and supported by Dr Christine Lockwood. Dr Lockwood shared her knowledge on Pirltawardli, including the work of missionaries in this area.

Later in the day, the children engaged in a variety of RAP initiated activities within their classrooms and used their Community Time to play Aboriginal games.

A day like Friday could not be possible without the help and commitment of many.

A special thanks to the following;

  1. The past and present RAP team
  2. Dianne for her culinary skills,
  3. Pastor Matt and Dr Lockwood for their  support in the Gallery,
  4. Mayor Claire Boan,
  5. Robert and Jamin,
  6. And all the staff and teachers who engaged  in this day and helped in various roles.

We recognise that reconciliation is an ongoing journey and are committed to all actions within our RAP, and beyond. This plan is not just a document. It is a call to action for each and every one of us. It is an invitation to embrace diversity, challenge biases, and build bridges of understanding. It is a reminder that reconciliation is not a one-time event but a continuous journey, requiring dedication, perseverance, and a collective effort.
